The star of the Williams pear brandies, distilled by Morand, is the sole legitimate carrier of the Williamine® brand.
Over the years, it has acquired an international reputation which is a guarantee of authenticity for the connoisseur. Identifying the product, its origins and quality, the Williamine® registered trademark is a distinctive brand exclusive to Distillerie Louis Morand & Cie SA, of Martigny (Valais) Switzerland. It is legally protected worldwide.
The company has lost count of the trademark infringements, deliberate acts of piracy and misappropriation of the Williamine® brand, all in flagrant violation of Swiss and international law. The confusion of the brand name with the generic product is all the more frequent now that is has become common parlance. From Lisbon to Moscow via Berlin, Paris and Rome, all fruit brandies made from Williams pears are referred to as «Williamine».
While numerous rivals knowingly seek to trick consumers by wrongful use of the Williamine® brand name, many others – or the same ones – imitate without scruple the graphic design of the label. Furthermore – often unwittingly it is true – journalists, critics and specialist authors contribute to this undermining of the brand’s integrity by referring willy-nilly to Williamine®.
Buyers wishing to avoid unpleasant surprises are well-advised to scrutinize the original label linking the Williamine® brand and the name of Morand. |
